Description
In this podcast we aim to highlight and discuss the updated evidence regarding stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), we will explore the indications for starting anticoagulation upon diagnosis of NVAF, as well as evidence of stopping and restarting anticoagulation for procedures, additionally, we will discuss the available data regarding the initiation of anticoagulation after both an ischemic and a hemorrhagic stroke.

Learning Objectives 
At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss the current evidence for initiating anticoagulation in patients with NVAF with emphasis on stroke prevention. Explore the factors influencing the choice of anticoagulant and address common challenges in managing anticoagulation therapy for NVAF.
  • Identify and address the available data on initiating anticoagulation after both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes in NVAF patients.
  • Discuss considerations, challenges, and best practices in tailoring anticoagulation therapy based on the type of stroke (Ischemic and hemorrhagic).
